Community Brass Band - made up of a variety of members from different age groups and different backgrounds at different levels of musical ability - WELCOMES NEW MEMBERS and old ones passing through who might wanna help out!
Busselton Brass has been in existence since 1871 and is proud to be one of the
oldest brass bands in the State. It is a community band comprising players of all ages
and from many different walks of life. As well as formal concerts, the Band plays
for many community events, including concerts at local Caravan Parks, Anzac Day,
Community Carols, events at the Busselton Festival and combined concerts with the
local High School Band.
Over the past ten years, the Band has accepted various challenges, including:
touring Japan in 2003; several visits to regional WA cities; hosting a Japanese Band
in Busselton; concerts with other brass bands, school bands and overseas guests;
competing in State Band Competitions, The WA Festival of Brass, Southwest
Queen’s Cup competition, the National Band Championships in 2010 and 2013 where
the Band achieved third place.
In 2012, the Band was honoured to be granted “Freedom of Entry to the City of
Busselton” in honour of the 141 years of service to the community.
A highlight for the Band in 2012 was a very successful trip to the Sydney
International Music Festival. Among the highlights of the trip were playing at the
Opera House and Sydney Town Hall, winning a gold award, and being one of three
groups invited to perform at the final gala concert.
Busselton Brass, under the baton of Musical Director Nicky Hair, is a happy,
energetic group who is proud of their Band and its achievements.
